Chapter 12: The Poor Dragon’s Woes
If Xia Li’s three years of life in another world had any lasting impact on his body,
then besides a slightly stronger physique, it was the unshakeable biological clock.
Early the next morning,
before the wall clock had even struck six, Xia Li opened his eyes and got up.
He was up earlier than the chickens.
After a quick wash-up, he saw Lucia still in bed, sleeping like a log.
Xia Li wanted to go downstairs and grab breakfast, but he didn’t feel comfortable leaving the silly dragon alone at home.
He was so tired last night that he hadn’t even remembered to explain the basic rules of survival in the human world to Lucia.
In the living room, Lucia’s sleeping face was peaceful on the narrow camp bed. Her long eyelashes cast a small shadow under the light, and her thin, pink lips were slightly pursed together, like a wavy line.
(=~=)
Lucia’s face peeked out from under the covers, soft and delicate, looking like a freshly peeled egg.
Do dragons have such good skin?
Xia Li squatted down, unable to resist the urge to pinch it.
When she was in dragon form, her scales were impenetrable, resistant to heat and cold, with both physical and magical defenses at MAX level. Even with all his might, Xia Li could barely pierce them.
So how come her skin was so tender after transforming into a human?
It seemed like if Xia Li dared to touch it, he could squeeze water out of her cheeks.
But Xia Li was just thinking about it; he wouldn’t actually do it.
She was a real dragon, after all. It wouldn’t be good if he reached out and got bitten.
He took out his phone and secretly snapped a picture of Lucia’s sleeping face.
Other people might have seen a dragon sleeping like a log and drooling, but Xia Li, the dragon slayer, was seeing it for the first time.
After taking a dozen photos from different angles, Xia Li finally put his phone away, satisfied.
Closing the photo album, Xia Li opened WeChat.
In the rules of survival in this society, social interaction was an essential part.
Although Xia Li was the type who preferred to stay home, he still had a couple of close friends.
Not just friends, family was also an important part of social interaction.
Unlike most transmigrators, Xia Li had loving and supportive parents.
During his three years in the other world, the people he missed the most were his parents.
They only had him, their only son. Xia Li often thought, if he died in a foreign land, what would his parents do?
It could be said that his longing for his parents was the belief that kept him going in the other world.
Xia Li opened the chat window with Mrs. Fang.
As expected, there were several new messages.
Actually, the first thing Xia Li did after landing back home yesterday was to send a message to his family to let them know he was safe.
But he guessed Mrs. Fang was probably playing mahjong at the mahjong parlor at the time, so she hadn’t checked her phone.
Now, opening the chat window, he saw that Mrs. Fang had replied at 8:30 last night.

Chat History –
Mrs. Fang: Son, how’s the braised pork I learned to make today? 『Picture』『Picture』
Mrs. Fang: Hello? Haven’t seen you for two days, and you’re not answering your phone.
Mrs. Fang: Why is your phone turned off?! I’ll have your dad go check on you tomorrow.
Mrs. Fang: Why aren’t you at home?! Heard from Xiao Chen that you went on a spontaneous trip? Now that you’ve graduated, I won’t stop you from going out and having fun, but at least take your phone with you! It’s so inconvenient to go out without a phone these days!
Mrs. Fang: Don’t go to the North, it’s chaotic there, be careful of getting scammed and having your kidney stolen!
Mrs. Fang: “Breaking News: 36 new ‘pig butchering’ scams ed in China”
Mrs. Fang: “Breaking News: Never go to these three places when you’re traveling…”
◈◈◈
During the week Xia Li disappeared, Mrs. Fang sent him a total of thirty messages.
More than twenty of them were online news articles shared from the ‘Happy Family’ group.
Only after Xia Li got his phone back yesterday and replied to Mrs. Fang with “Mom, I’m back”, did the content of her messages return to normal.
Mrs. Fang: You’re home?
Mrs. Fang: One message in a week, and then you disappear again.
Mrs. Fang: I’ll have your dad go see you tomorrow, if you’re not home, just wait for me to come over and give you bamboo shoots stir-fried with meat!
‘Bamboo shoots stir-fried with meat’ is a common phrase in Sichuan province, meaning to beat a child.
◈◈◈
Xia Li’s childhood was not without threats of this phrase, but in reality, his mom rarely hit him, it was mostly just to scare him.
Seeing his mom’s usual way of speaking, Xia Li couldn’t help but smile.
Although he wanted to go back and see his parents right now, the journey was a bit far, and before settling Lucia down, he couldn’t leave for the next few days.
Summer Dawn: Don’t do that, Mom, I said I’d be back, and I am.
Xia Li was afraid that Mrs. Fang would order Old Xia to come over and check on him, so he quickly sent several messages.
He also recorded a video and sent it over.
In the video, Xia Li held his phone and walked around the room, and to increase credibility, he also ed the current date.
However, he cleverly avoided the camp bed in the living room and ‘accidentally’ covered the areas where Lucia might appear with his fingers.
After sending the message to Fang Xia, Xia Li switched chat windows and turned to deal with his old man, Xia Yuanjun.
Compared to Fang Xia’s message bombardment, Xia Yuanjun’s side was much simpler.
A total of two ‘Where are you?’ messages, and a single ‘?’.
Xia Li replied to Xia Yuanjun with ‘I’m back’ and then turned off his phone.
Communication between father and son was that simple and efficient.
If Xia Li hadn’t disappeared without a word for so long, Xia Yuanjun probably wouldn’t even have sent a question mark.
Putting down his phone, Xia Li felt his stomach burning with hunger.
He was about to get up and make himself some instant noodles when a force grabbed his arm.
Xia Li’s body suddenly tilted, and he almost fell on his butt.
Fortunately, he had trained his core strength for a while before practicing swordsmanship, so under this pulling force, Xia Li only took half a step back and stabilized himself.
Looking down, Xia Li looked at the culprit who had extended her evil dragon claws towards him.
Lucia had just woken up, her eyes were hazy and unfocused.
She stretched out her white and tender hands from the blanket, one hand grabbing Xia Li’s wrist, the other rubbing her eyes.
“Hungry,” Lucia said.
“…”
Xia Li was a little surprised.
In his opinion, Lucia just casually pulled him, but her strength was… surprisingly strong.
It wasn’t the kind of strength a girl like Lucia should have, her arm strength seemed disproportionate to her slender arms.
Actually, Xia Li had thought about it yesterday.
The evil dragon had been tragically weakened on Earth, but only her magic was weakened, her original physical strength shouldn’t have changed.
Maybe she was weaker because of her physique, but this weakness was based on the original strength of a giant dragon, compared to normal people, Lucia’s strength would be in a very outrageous range.
However, this outrageousness would not deviate from the laws of physics on Earth.
No matter how hard the bones were, they were still bones, and carbon-based life without magic would always have limits.
At this time, Lucia probably hadn’t realized that her body was actually much stronger than she imagined.
But, Xia Li wouldn’t feel anxious about this.
It didn’t matter even if Lucia discovered this… Xia Li was a brave hero after all, and there was a Demon Repelling Sword in the room specifically designed to deal with evil dragons.
If Lucia wanted to rebel, it was hard to say who would be on top.
“Want to eat.”
Seeing that the brave hero was standing there foolishly, Lucia reached out and pulled him again.
If Xia Li hadn’t put those curly noodles too high for her to reach, she would have hunted for food herself!
She wouldn’t have to beg the brave hero so pathetically!
“You… put on your clothes, I’ll take you out to eat.”
Xia Li came back to his senses, picked up the clothes and pants that had fallen out of the blanket and put them on Lucia’s pillow, and went back to his room to avoid her for a while.
