The strangest thing was that the woman seemed to have lost the ability to sense the outside world. She didn’t react to their arrival. Zhao Ru was used to this. She held the tray and came to the bed. She pulled out something that looked like a shelf from under the bed. The shelf was extendable. One could fold it back under the bed when not in use. It was very convenient.
Jiang Cheng had been to many hospitals, but this was his first time seeing a contraption like this. Zhao Ru placed the tray on the shelf and pulled the woman’s arm out of the blanket. Regardless, Jiang Cheng only showed pity. He pressed, “What incident traumatised her so?”
“Not sure.” Zhao Ru shook her head.
“What about her family?” Jiang Cheng looked around. It didn’t look like people visited this place.
“I hear she doesn’t have much family. The hospital staff is looking after her.” Zhao Ru explained, “Her usual nurse took a break, so I recently took over the job. I came to dispense needles. Later, the male nurse will come to wipe her body.”
When Jiang Cheng heard that the hospital had been looking after the woman, he was confused. This was a hospital, not an old folks’ home. Jiang Cheng could understand looking after the woman for a month out of ethics, but for ten years?! Wasn’t that a bit exaggerated? Was the hospital that charitable?
Jiang Cheng’s first reaction was that the woman ended up like this because there was a medical accident. The hospital forced her family to sign an NDA to protect its reputation. Maybe her family got a lot of money.
Seeing Jiang Cheng’s confusion, Zhao Ru whispered, “This woman is not a patient here.”
Jiang Cheng frowned. “She’s not?!”

“What department was she from?” Jiang Cheng asked.
“I don’t know.” Zhao Ru shrugged. After all, she was a new intern. It was normal for her not to know certain things. However, her revelation provided Jiang Cheng with a new direction. His instinct told him that the case was related to this woman in bed… Even though he had no evidence.
There was not much in the IV bag. It was gone after half an hour. Zhao Ru removed the needle and put away the tray. Then, she helped to arrange the woman’s clothes.
Jiang Cheng walked forward to help. As he helped her, he continued in a sad tone, “It’s not good for her to stay like this always.” He admitted that he knew a bit of massage. Without getting Zhao Ru’s permission, he massaged the woman’s muscles. He focused on her limbs. First, her arms, then her legs. As he did so, he comforted the woman as if she could hear him.
Zhao Ru didn’t think the man was so kind. Instantly, her impression of him increased.
As he massaged the woman, Jiang Cheng’s frown deepened. Since she had been immobile, there should be atrophy in the woman’s muscles. That was evident in the woman’s legs. This matched Director Qi’s story of when the haunting became. Jiang Cheng narrowed his eyes. After checking everything, Jiang Cheng put the woman’s arms back under the blanket. Then, he slowly stood up and glanced at the woman with pity.
“Thank you.” Seeing how kind Jiang Cheng was, Zhao Ru was impressed. Even the nurses didn’t care about the woman this much.
“It’s nothing. I pity her, so I wish to help her,” Jiang Cheng said sincerely.
Zhao Ru checked that she hadn’t missed anything. Then, she wanted to lead Jiang Cheng away. “Let’s go.”
Infected by Jiang Cheng’s kindness, Zhao Ru took a different route back. She said she wanted to stop at the nurse station to tell them to treat their jobs seriously. Zhao Ru noticed the woman’s clothes were a bit dirty. They needed to be changed.
The poor woman needed a patient and kind man to look after her.
