Nightmare Assault-Chapter 467: Extrapolation

Chapter 467: Extrapolation
“Then, I fainted. When I woke up, I was already lying in the downstairs sickroom.” Zhao Ru tried to remember, “The nurse told me that it was Director Qi who happened to pass by and noticed me. He carried me out.”
“And then?” Jiang Cheng enquired gently.
“Then, Director Qi was notified that I woke up and came to see me. He asked me what happened.” Zhao Ru’s throat moved as she turned to Jiang Cheng.
“You didn’t tell him about these, right?”
Zhao Ru lowered her head. “I told him that I accidentally slipped and fell. Perhaps… I was really too nervous.” She backpedalled because she felt like Jiang Cheng would not believe such a ludicrous thing.
Jiang Cheng didn’t dwell on this. He changed the topic, “So, what is the daily medicine?”
“I requested them at the pharmacy.” Zhao Ru explained, “Director Qi set up everything. I only need to claim them at the pharmacy.”
“Director Qi prescribed everything?!” Jiang Cheng was intrigued.
“Yes.” Zhao Ru whispered, “I found that out accidentally.” It was clear that even Zhao Ru was suspicious about the relationship between the bedridden woman and Director Qi. However, having a job was more important than gossiping. As an intern, she just wanted to work at the hospital, and the person who decided that was Director Qi. Therefore, she didn’t dare to question or offend him.
Regardless, Jiang Cheng came up with a series of extrapolations based on Zhao Ru's remarks. Even though it was not clear, he had a general direction.
First, it was Director Qi. He clearly knew the patient in Room 906. In fact, their relationship was probably bad. The nurse probably had something over Director Qi, and he didn’t want her to wake up. From the clues, Jiang Cheng tried to reconstruct what Zhao Ru had experienced.
10 years ago, the nurse lost her mind due to some trauma. It was real, and Director Qi was probably involved with it.
However, not too long ago, the nurse woke up from her coma. Jiang Cheng believed that it had to do with the ghost’s appearance. Director Qi was nervous when he realised that. Therefore, he started to inject her with sedatives. However, he didn’t do it himself; he tasked Zhao Ru with doing it for him. This was why Director Qi was so nervous when Zhao Ru attended to the woman for the first few times. He was worried that the woman might wake up and reveal something unsightly. He calmed down when the woman didn’t react to the injections and allowed Zhao Ru to do the rest on her own.
However, he didn’t realise that Zhao Ru would accidentally break the medicine. She didn’t tell Director Qi, afraid that she’d lose her job. Therefore, the power of the sedative weakened. The next day, when Zhao Ru treated the patient, the woman woke up, triggered by the thunder. She told Zhao Ru, “...It has returned.” It meant the ghost.
Jiang Cheng glanced at the girl beside him. He wondered what would happen to her if she told Director Qi what she heard from the woman. Jiang Cheng believed that she would die. The woman was sent into a coma because she knew something.
Jiang Cheng wondered if he should sneak over to see her. Perhaps he could glean some information from her. Or he should wait until it was nighttime. However, he quickly denied that thought. Based on what Zhao Ru said, she touched the hand that didn’t belong to the two present. Plus, Jiang Cheng remembered her choice of words. The hand was cold. If she weren’t rambling, the hand probably belonged to the ghost. And the ghost was inside the room, next to Zhao Ru!
Jiang Cheng was worried that he’d lure the ghost out if he randomly approached the woman in the bed. Thus far, the ghost was hostile towards them. After all, Director Qi hired them to vanquish the ghost.
Then, in their chats, Jiang Cheng asked about the abandoned corridor on the sixth floor again. Zhao Ru basically knew nothing. However, she mentioned that one of the senior nurses warned her to stay away from the sixth floor. She asked her why, but the nurse had no answer. She said it was a warning left behind by her senior.
“But she had a reminder for me.” Zhao Ru looked up and regarded Jiang Cheng strangely. “One morning, when she came to work, she passed by the sixth floor. She noticed many black things on the floor. The wind blew, and they floated everywhere. She walked over to check out of curiosity. She realised they were burned ashes.” Zhao Ru paused before whispering, “The day before was the middle of July.”
The middle of July was also known as the Hungry Ghost Festival.
“Was someone burning paper money in the sixth-floor corridor?” Jiang Cheng frowned.
“Yes.” Zhao Ru nodded before resuming, “Plus, everyone agreed that they felt creeped out whenever they walked by the sixth floor. I would never dare to go there alone.” Zhao Ru admitted, “Even if I had to pass by, I would take the route near your room. I never take that corridor.
“You should try to stay away as well.” Zhao Ru was concerned. “You should inform Director Qi to get him to move you to another room.
“This hospital looks big, but after I started working here, I realised the business here is just normal. There are a lot of empty sick bays.”
