Nightmare Assault-Chapter 468: Suspicion
Chapter 468: Suspicion
Seeing the concern in Zhao Ru’s eyes, Jiang Cheng frowned. However, he quickly switched into his Casanova mode. “Thank you,” He said sincerely.
Zhao Ru blushed and nodded, accepting Jiang Cheng’s appreciation. Just as they intended to get closer, someone came from the outside. It was a man in an old-fashioned plaid suit with a red tie. His face was dark with anger and annoyance.
“Hey.” The man walked over to knock on the glass window. “It’s time to change medicine for the patient in Room 309.”
Zhao Ru pulled open the glass door and politely explained to the man that she hadn’t received any notification. Plus, she wasn’t responsible for Room 309. He would have to go downstairs to get the other nurses.
This rubbed the man the wrong way. He countered that he just came from downstairs. The nurse downstairs told him to come up. The man’s tone worsened. After Zhao Ru made a call, she told the man to return to the room to wait. She would go to the pharmacy to grab the medicine and hurry over.
“That’s more like it.” The man turned and left. He grumbled, “If you didn’t look so young, I would have complained about you to the director already.” Jiang Cheng guessed the man was in construction and had just claimed his construction payment.
“I’m sorry.” Zhao Ru looked at Jiang Cheng shyly. “I need to get to work.”
Jiang Cheng smiled. “It’s fine. I’ll come back to find you when you’re done.”
Zhao Ru’s gait lightened when she heard that. She packed up and left. Jiang Cheng looked at her back, and the strange emotion in his eyes returned. After meeting this girl, everything became simpler. In less than a day, she had provided many surprises. Plus… the information she offered appeared unrelated, but it all pointed to the same person: Director Qi.
She was only there for a month, and she was an intern. Could she really get all the information so easily?
Jiang Cheng was reminded of a person, another woman. She was Xiao Wan from the ancient China mission. She and her sister, Xuan Ji, were famed as a pair of beauties. Xiao Wan played the role of a bait, luring the travellers into a trap.
Of course, Jiang Cheng had no evidence that this was the case here. It was a guess. He needed more observations. Perhaps he was lucky, and Zhao Ru was a girl captivated by his charm. After all, Jiang Cheng had confidence in his position as the headliner of the nighttime KTV.
The travellers gathered in Room 209.
When Kui Yi saw Jiang Cheng walk in, he stopped and told Jiang Cheng that they had found an important clue. There was an elder living at the hospital who might know what had happened ten years ago.
“The elder has been here for many years already.” Kui Yi introduced, “He used to work at the hospital canteen. As he got older, his health worsened. He has no family, so the hospital keeps him around to do some miscellaneous chores.”
“We went to see him, but we were chased out before we could say anything.” Cao Yang pouted. “He must know something, but he refused to tell us.” The old man had a bad temper and liked to drink. He rarely interacted with people. He stayed inside a small room at the corner of the first floor. It was a windowless room. Apparently, it was a storeroom in the past.
“We are planning to revisit him. This time, we’ll bring some alcohol with us.” Cao Yang moved to show half a box of Gaoliang under the bed. The plan was to get him drunk and get him to speak. Jiang Cheng had no issues about that, but one thing confused him…
“Is this everything?” Jiang Cheng walked forward and pulled out a bottle. He found the small letters that stated that the alcohol was 70 proof. “Are you going to have him drink this dry?” Jiang Cheng shook the bottle. “Aren’t you going to pair it with some food?”
Cao Yang was startled. “We… didn’t get the chance to buy any.”
“Roasted peanuts, sliced pork, and some minor dishes.” Jiang Cheng ordered. “And we need two packs of beer. The colder the better.”
“We’ve asked around. The shopkeeper next door told us that the old man doesn’t drink beer. He only drinks this.” Cao Yang shook the box of Gaoliang.
“The beers are for us,” Jiang Cheng explained. Kui Yi frowned. Jiang Cheng didn’t act like a newbie should. However, he kept his opinions to himself. “Mr Jiang,” Kui Yi said, “We’ll leave this to you.”
“Aren’t you coming with?” Jiang Cheng asked.
“I wish to use this opportunity to walk around some more.” Kui Yi answered sincerely. Then, he lowered his voice, “This hospital should have an archive. If we can find it, it’ll be very beneficial to us.”
“That’s right.” Jiang Cheng rewarded him with admiration. “Then, you have to be careful. The sky outside…” Jiang Cheng turned to glance out the window. He didn’t continue.
Everyone understood him. The sky was almost completely dark. It was basically nighttime. The dark clouds hung over their hearts. They felt very oppressed.
Kui Yi smiled to lighten the mood. “Actually, I wish to go with you, but I’ll get drunk with a sip. Even if I go, it’s pointless.” Kui Yi asked, “How about Brother Jiang’s ability to hold liquor?”
After all, their goal was to make the old man drunk. If they got drunk in return and said things they shouldn’t have, it would make things worse. Therefore, they planned to play a tag-team game.
“It’s quite normal.” Jiang Cheng shrugged. “But my friends said I have a good personality when I’m drunk.”
Lin Wan ‘Er curved her lips. Her eyes, which looked at Jiang Cheng, glowed. She was in a good mood when she was looking at him.
Cao Yang gritted his teeth. “I can handle some liquor.”
Then, everyone turned to Wang Changguo. However, the man shook his head. “My health is too bad to drink.”
No one considered Du Feng. He was too easily frightened. Plus, considering how cowardly he was, Jiang Cheng didn’t plan to bring him.
After making a call, the restaurant delivered the food. Jiang Cheng and Cao Yang went to fetch the delivery.
They wrapped the food in their clothes lest they be discovered by the hospital staff.
