Chapter 215: Gym’s Closing
Adam finds himself in a similar situation to when Adam had Lamai pinned down on the mat before, when he confronted her about her weird behavior towards him.
To which he found out that her cold attitude towards him was because she was jealous of how her father valued him more than her.
Now he is in a similar position, but this time, Lamai’s frustration and anger are directed at someone else, but it’s still him who has to handle her spicy ass.
Now that Adam thinks about it, Lamai really has a short fuse, and she probably needs some proper discipline to make her behave.
Well, Adam’s up for the task. He will just have to make Lamai one of his women first, then he can think about disciplining her.
"Let go of me!" Lamai says again, struggling against Adam’s pin, even though she is fully aware that her struggling has no effect, no matter how hard she tries.
She is just doing it because she feels great frustration and anger because of her situation.
"No," Adam says again, staring into her eyes with his intense gaze.
Lamai’s frustration continues to boil, but under Adam’s intense gaze, her mind starts focusing on what’s before her rather than the cause of her frustration and anger.
She bites her lower lip with scrunched brows as she feels helpless in her current situation.
Soon, a sense of calmness finally washes over her as she stares into Adam’s strikingly beautiful eyes.
"Looks like you finally calmed down. I will now let you go, but if you go back to being an angry mess, you already know what’s gonna happen," Adam says.
Lamai feels Adam’s grip around her loosen before he finally lets go, freeing her hands. He then unwraps his legs from hers and slides away before sitting next to her as Lamai continues to lie on the mat, staring at the ceiling.
"What’s going on? Why are you so angry, and at whom?" Adam asks.
Lamai doesn’t answer Adam immediately. She takes her time thinking about it.
"It’s all over..." she finally speaks.
"What’s over?" Adam asks.
"This gym... We might have to close down..." Lamai says.
Adam is surprised to hear this. Why would Rangsan close this gym when everything seems to be working for him?
He has a lot of members training for MMA. He even has a high-paying client who is a ranked fighter aiming for the world championship.
So why would such a successful gym close down?
"Close down? Why?" Adam asks.
"My father.... He borrowed a lot of money, which he can’t afford to pay... So to make up for his payment, he gave up on everything...." Lamai says.
"I don’t understand... What do you mean by give up on everything?" Adam asks.
*Sigh* Lamai lets out a defeated sigh and finally turns her head to look at him.
Now, other than anger and frustration, there is sadness in her eyes.
"Since he couldn’t pay the money to his lender. He had to either sell this building or transfer all our members to the lender..." Lamai says.
"What? Transfer members to the lender? What does that mean?" Adam’s now very confused.
"This lender. He is an old rival of my dad. Xang Lao. He too is a very well-known fighter, like my dad... No, his fame and status are much higher than my father’s.
He’s also a former world champion. Something he earned after defeating my father for the number one contender spot back when they were at their prime.
My father... A few years ago borrowed a lot of money from this man as he was the only one willing to lend any money to dad...
Dad was desperate, so he went along with it even though the interest rate was very high. He believed that with this gym, he could earn enough to pay off the debt, but he was wrong.
We were doing good, but not good enough.
Yesterday was the deadline. We don’t have the money. So Xang Lao gave Dad an ultimatum. Either hand over this gym or its members.
Dad gave up the members. He couldn’t part with this gym..." Lamai says.
"Wait... Does that mean he transferred my membership to this Lao guy as well?" Adam asks.
"No, you are the only one whom he didn’t give up on," Lamai says.
’So that’s why the gym is empty... Everyone’s membership has been transferred to some other gym,’ Adam thinks when a name crosses his mind.
"Even Darrel?" Adam asks, as Darrel is Rangsan’s biggest client. Someone, Rangsan, is training to fight for the world title.
In fact, Darrel’s payment for Rangsan training him is more than the rest of the members combined.
Losing Darrel is like losing most of your limbs.
"Yes... Darrel, too," Lamai says, defeated.
"But did Darrel agree?" Adam asks.
"Yes, he did.... I thought we were friends, but when Dad informed Darrel about the transfer... He sounded very excited even though he pretended not to be," Lamai says, gritting her teeth.
"Why is that? Didn’t Darrel value Rangsan?" Adam asks.
"Before coming to my dad, Darrel actually tried to hire Xang Lao as his coach, but was rejected as he already had a few world champion prospects training under him," Lamai says.
Adam doesn’t know what to say hearing this. That crazy old man just gave up all his members and kept only himself? Has he gone mad?
"Wow, that’s... heavy..." Adam says and whistles.
"Now you are his only hope... or that’s what he says to himself," Lamai says.
"That’s a lot of unwanted pressure on my shoulder, don’t you think?" Adam says in return.
"I know... I am sorry..." Lamai apologizes.
"No need to apologize... So what are we going to do now?" Adam asks.
He really doesn’t care if Rangsan transferred all the members to this Lao guy; he is here to learn and improve himself.
And even though Rangsan has suddenly put this huge burden on his shoulder, Adam is also feeling a little good about himself, seeing how much Rangsan really values him.
Then again, there is no one like Adam, so he should be valued more than others.
’Adam, your narcissistic tendencies are coming out. Control yourself!’ Adam says to himself and takes a deep breath.
"It’s going to be hard. With no other members, it will be hard to find sparring partners for you, and they are very important for your growth. For that we need money..." Lamai says.
"Oh, and how does Rangsan plan to get that?" Adam asks.
"Don’t know yet, and it’s not just your training. We need the money to bring food to the table. We don’t have any savings..." Lamai says, defeated.
The more Adam hears about Lamai, the more he pities her and her situation. But he is not going to be some generous donor and donate some money to them.
He is not their caretaker; they are just his coaches.
"We will think about it. You just focus on training. My dad will be here soon," Lamai says and sits up.
"Sorry about my behavior. I tried taking out my frustration on you... again..." Lamai says as her cheeks turn red from embarrassment.
"Indeed, this is the second time. I believe I deserve some compensation," Adam says, nodding his head.
"Compensation? What kind?" Lamai asks, curious.
"Hmmm, it’s hard to think of one right now. I will think about it and inform you later," Adam says.
"Fine... Okay then... Let’s start with your training. Let’s focus on what you have already learned until Dad arrives. He should be here in a few minutes," Lamai says and gets to her feet.
Adam follows.
’I need to learn more about this situation. Lamai said every member got transferred, which means Crill and Zydan have been transferred as well.
I need to talk to them and hear it from their perspective,’ Adam thinks as he follows Lamai out of the ring and joins her in some drills before progressing to some striking and then grappling practice.
About half an hour later, Rangsan arrives and greets Adam with a hearty laugh.
"Adam, my boy! You are here already! And I see that you have already warmed up. Let’s continue from where we left, hahaha," Rangsan looks jolly from the outside.
But someone who is as good an observer as Adam notices that it’s just a facade he is putting on. He, too, looks hurt by what just happened.
Just yesterday, this gym was busting with people, and suddenly it’s empty as it can get, with only one member. Adam.
Rangsan is really putting all his chips under Adam, not knowing that he has made the best investment of his life.
Rangsan begins guiding Adam through some striking techniques, their uses, and situations in which they can be used, and then finally comes the demonstration.
With no one else in the gym, Rangsan has to use Lamai for the demonstration and then ask her to guide Adam through practice, forcing Lamai to do more than she did before.
Adam could handle anything Rangsan threw at him, but poor Lamai was exhausted beyond measure by the end of the session.
She was already spent when Adam walked into the gym, so seeing her push herself just to help her father when she had no reason to made Adam realize how good a person Lamai is.
Someone Adam won’t mind having as a lover.
"That’s it for today~ Go home, eat well, and rest a lot. Let your body recover properly so that we can push you even harder next time," Rangsan says with a laugh and leaves.
