The Knight from the Fairytales-Chapter 14: Initiating the Oath

Chapter 14

The scene was in complete disarray. The King sat slumped on the ground, his whole being radiating dejection. Soldiers stepped forward to help him up, but no matter how they pulled, they couldn't move him.
The culprit had escaped, and judging by appearances, her power was truly formidable.
The remaining witches began whispering among themselves. Some chose to leave directly, while others stayed to see how things would develop.
They were kind-hearted, but sometimes they had to weigh their own capabilities. If you couldn't win a fight, you just couldn't win. If the King came to his senses and asked for help, they would find it difficult to refuse, and secondly, they genuinely couldn't defeat that foe.
Thirdly, having mastered supernatural powers, they were no longer on the same level as ordinary mortals. Often, they acted on a whim, doing things as they pleased.
Beihai also looked at his own hands, which were red. They were stained with the Demon's blood and his own blood, the two mixed together.
Beihai only felt that he was too weak. During the earlier fierce fight, he had treated every move as if it were his last, so he had nearly lost himself in the life-and-death struggle. Now that he had calmed down,
the stinging pain coming from his fists made Beihai feel somewhat uncomfortable.
He could only continue to grow stronger. Beihai glanced at the little Princess in the cradle. If he hadn't met this little Princess, he might still think he was capable enough to sit at the table and eat.
But now, looking at the situation, it seemed he still wasn't good enough. If he encountered a being growing up with such a blessing, Beihai would probably be treated like a dog kicked to death on the roadside!
However, after thinking so much, Beihai took out a small golden dragon from inside his armor and tossed it out amidst the chaos.
The Golden Scale Dragon's goal was very clear the moment it appeared. It directly ran toward the dining table. The moment it arrived, it started stuffing golden plates into its mouth. This was the reward!
"What should we do now? The curse has been activated. How can I lift this curse?"
The King's voice made the Golden Scale Dragon's devouring actions slow down a bit. It almost thought the King was talking about it! Seems that wasn't the case!
Well, that made sense. This kingdom was so wealthy; a few golden plates were nothing.
Coming to his senses, the King first looked toward those witches, hoping to receive their help.
The witches who remained and hadn't left could only shake their heads in response to the King.
"Our blessings have already been given to Her Highness the Princess. No witch can bestow a second blessing upon the same person. Moreover, her curse is too powerful."
"Then my daughter, my most beloved daughter, can only enjoy fifteen years of life in this world?
How cruel! My daughter's life has just begun, yet her ending is already predetermined.
No! There must be another way. I will proclaim it to the world! I will announce it to the entire world! Whoever can break the Princess's curse! I will betroth the Princess to him, to her savior!
Not only that, but my kingdom will also be given to him! As long as he can save my daughter!"
Everyone present who heard the King's vow declaration hadn't expected the King to possess such determination. That was a Princess, and an entire kingdom!
Beihai didn't care about any kingdom proclamation; he only knew it was time for him to start performing.
Faced with such a matter, he definitely couldn't stand by and do nothing. As a Knight, he absolutely had to meddle in others' business. Stepping forward this time definitely aligned with the Knight's code, and he might even receive many rewards.
"Your Majesty, please do not be angry. As a Knight, encountering such a matter yet failing to stop it in time is my fault.
Please, Your Majesty, tell me the Princess's name. I am willing to use everything I have to help the Princess."
Beihai bowed, his eyes filled with determination and guilt, as if everything that had just happened was his own fault, blaming himself for failing to save the little Princess.
"How can this matter be blamed on you?
The blame lies with the culprit, that vicious Witch. My poor little daughter, Aurora."
After confirming the name, Beihai wasn't particularly surprised. This Princess's name in the story was Rose Princess.
In the movie, she was called Ariel, but she also had an alternate name, the one the King just uttered: Aurora.
After learning the name, Beihai approached Aurora, went down on one knee, and took her chubby little hand.
To be honest, with this supernatural power, if he hadn't made a name for himself and possessed the peculiarities of his profession, Beihai might not have been able to do this.
Taking a deep breath, Beihai began to swear his oath!
I swear upon my life,
My Princess. No matter how the winds and rains change, my sword will always remain by your side. Before the curse arrives, I will protect you until your final moment, and I will break your curse.
If the curse truly comes, I am willing to use my life to protect you.
I will break your curse, and for this, I will march forward fearlessly, fighting alongside my sword. My loyalty is like my armor, unyielding and steadfast. Even if I shed the last drop of my blood on this journey, I will not regret it.
I will remember the virtues of humility, honor, sacrifice, valor, compassion, spirit, honesty, and justice. These virtues will guide me forward, making me your most steadfast guardian. Whether on paths thick with thorns or battlefields fraught with peril, I will charge ahead courageously, fearless and dreadnaught.
I place my sword here. It will bear witness to my oath, bear witness to my loyalty. May the gods bless it to remain forever sharp. Unless its master bows his head, it shall never break. I will use my blood and sweat to crown my oath, until the final moment of my life.
I am willing to use everything I have to protect you, my Princess. No matter how difficult the road ahead, I will unwaveringly fulfill my oath, forever.
As this oath fell, within the palace, a Little Fairy appeared at some unknown time.
This Little Fairy had come to bear witness to the oath. As Beihai's oath concluded, the Little Fairy began its work.
Although the curse couldn't be lifted directly, one could exploit a loophole. Just as Beihai said, he would kill that old Witch before the curse erupted, thereby breaking the curse.
Even if he couldn't find her, his life could be used as a substitute, trading his own life for the Princess's life.
Beihai wasn't anxious at all; in fact, he felt somewhat like laughing. That was fifteen years! If he hurried, he could kill some old Witch by her sixteenth birthday. With such a long time, couldn't he manage to kill one old Witch?
As for the first ten-plus years, what kind of protection was that, seriously? With this little Princess having so many blessings and the King's level of doting affection, she would be completely fine. Beihai didn't need to worry at all.
This deal could be said to be a sure profit with no loss.
After the Little Fairy performed the oath witnessing, a Knight's sword appeared. This sword was a Sword of Protection, a blade imbued with extraordinary power.
After this sword appeared in Beihai's hand, Beihai actually wanted to keep it for himself.
Not to mention that this thing was better than ordinary iron, just the fact that it possessed supernatural power, and was probably harder than any metal in this world, since it was touched by the supernatural.
But just then, the System's voice also transmitted over.
"Upholding the Knight's code, willing to use your life to protect the weak. Such noble character and principles! Congratulations on obtaining the weapon: Red Name."
The Red Name longsword was also called Remnant Red. Its effect was the same as in games: those who committed numerous evil deeds had a red name above their heads and were called red-named players. The damage dealt to them would increase tenfold, even a hundredfold!
If the target wasn't such a person, it wouldn't hinder the sword's inherent sharpness.
Beihai placed the Sword of Protection into the infant's cradle.
"Since I have already sworn the oath, this sword shall become the Princess's sharp blade. It will protect the Princess and shall be her most capable partner."
The King beside them had cried until he was a tearful mess. He never expected that this Knight, whom he had just met, would be willing to use his life to protect his daughter, even to save her.
"Your oath has been sworn, and it shall ultimately be fulfilled!"
The Little Fairy also finished its work, then transformed into sparkling starlight particles and disappeared within the palace.
Beihai, meanwhile, was taking stock of his gains, grabbing the gluttonous little dragon in his hand.
Then, wait a minute. Wasn't I the only one making this oath? What did it mean by 'your' oath? Who else? That old Witch?!
