Chapter 52: The Two Parties, A New Member!
One by one, the students settle back into their seats, as if that moment had never happened. Zylus frowned.
Since when did
fear
vanish this fast?
They each went back to their seats, while the teacher started writing down on the blackboard with hard chalk.
Zylus then moved his head downwards towards his desk.
It couldn’t be, right?
He thought to himself.
"What if they caught Jace and not me?" Zylus whispered, "But in any case, they’ve only detected one, not the two of us."
And then, Lucas and those other two bullies began to walk in, all of them maliciously smirked towards Zylus and Fred, as they went to take their seats.
Bing!
The teacher tapped hard on the chalkboard, then took his hand away, "Our new task is..." Mr. Cruz pointed towards where he had written, "The Evergreen Cliff."
And just then, someone started to slowly walk into Zylus’s classroom, behind Lucas and the other two who surrounded him. Mr. Cruz smiled, welcoming the man who was about to take them to the ’Evergreen Cliff.’
"Technique," the man entering the room calmly called out, dragging his hand towards all the students, "Teleport: Order one, Destination Attached."
Zylus’s vision snapped back. Each student beside him fell onto the ground. Grunts, grasps, and curses erupted all at once. Now, they weren’t at the academy anymore; they were now on top of the ’Evergreen Cliff.’
The ’Evergreen Cliff’ was surrounded by trees, but for some reason, the moon was out, staring right at Zylus. The air smelled perfectly fresh. Each academy student stared around, amazed by the beautiful scenery.
They were clearly on top of a cliff, the tips were perfectly placed around them, and for some reason, there were no stairs they could get down by.
"Ahh, sir," A girl to the left of Zylus nervously said, looking around her, "How are we going to get down? And, why is the setting at night? Back in the academy, it was sunny."
"Look around you, at the ’Evergreen Cliff." The teacher paused, "What do you notice?"
"What do I notice?" She looked around, staring at the large trees that surrounded them and the beautiful grass that swished down, "It’s an empty, large forest. With only cliffs at the edge."
"Now, I want you to look again." Mr. Cruz calmly said, as the terrain started widening, to the point you couldn’t see the large one-hundred-meter fall now, "What do you see now?" He smirked.
All of them looked around. "Now, your goal is to survive here for one week." The teacher calmly said, "There are things displaced in the human realm, secretly away from the rest, named ’Magical Beasts.’" He said calmly, "You’ll have to kill to survive."
They each panicked, "W-what do you mean, magical beasts...?" One boy nervously asked.
"Just like they sound like," Mr. Cruz replied, "Creatures with elemental enhancements, they should be similar to the ones we have at the human realm, but some could be slightly different." He said.
Zylus stared at Lucas; his full attention was on Fred. The two Zylus beat up in the elevator were beside him, lustfully staring at Eldra as she chatted it up with her girls.
"Anyways... My time’s running out," The teacher continued, "Kill, eat, survive, and sleep. If you die, we won’t be able to bring you back to life, so please try your hardest this week. We’ll pick you up right after." Mr. Cruz calmly said. "Oh, and one more thing. On here, you’ll never see the sun, only the night. So good luck navigating around this area! Goodbye for now!" He disappeared from their faces.
Without further explanations about anything, he left, as if he was never around.
"Teach said something about ’time running out,’ probably has to do with that teleportation spell from earlier," Zylus whispered.
As the moon continued to stare each of them down, Lucas decided to take the lead.
"Follow me if you want a true leader he called out!" Walking forward carefully, Lucas put a hand through his hair, "I’ll lead us to survival." He said.
The others disagreed, and only the girls had the confidence to say why...
"But you lost to a nobody," a girl called out, "Why should we follow somebody like you?"
"Yeah."
"I agree."
The two who surrounded Lucas angrily stepped up, but then Lucas stopped them.
"Listen," Lucas calmly said, "I spoke with the principal of the academy, and apparently I was casting it wrong." The lie was obvious.
Still, hesitation rippled through the group. Lucas stood awaiting an answer. And hesitation was all Lucas needed when they each started taking his side.
The students followed Lucas by his side, their chatter complemented his arrogance.
"Yeah, that could be true."
"Ah, it’s whatever."
"Yeah, sure."
Every male and female started going on Lucas’s side, as he stared Eldra lustfully, "How about you? He asked.
Eldra took Zylus’s arm, "I’d rather be with him."
Lucas made a grumpy noise, "Suit yourself."
And then, he started walking in the opposite direction, the entire group following him. The only ones that remained were Fred, Eldra, and this one other person.
Zylus took his arm out of Eldra’s grab, "I’d rather go alone, it’s better."
Eldra shook her head, "No! It’s dark, and I’m scared."
"That’s your problem, not mine." He calmly said.
"Please," Eldra whispered. "I don’t want to be with the rest, I’d rather be with you." She intently made her face cuter, "I’ll help you however you like."
Help me, you say?
Zylus thought.
"Fine," Zylus let in.
"Okay!" Eldra said excitedly, "We should get going."
And then, Fred started walking up to them, "Y-ou think y-you can also include m-me?" He asked, afraid they’ll say no.
Eldra’s expression darkened; she got mad that her brother interfered with their romantic moment. But Zylus didn’t think of her in that fashion whatsoever.
"Why not?" Zylus accepted him, as the other guy left over started walking over to them.
"Hey there!" He said joyfully, "Mind if I tag along? Strength’s better shared, right?"
Zylus looked at him, hesitantly, unsure if it was safe to allow him to follow them.
"My name’s Noctis Brava, and you’re already pretty well-known in our academy after what you did." Noctis calmly put his hands out, "So what do you say?"
Zylus felt uneasy; he knew he was a curse to others, and he had accepted it. But this was completely different; he thought nothing bad could come to them now that they’re isolated from the rest of the world.
"Sure, why not?" Zylus agreed, taking his hand out to have a firm handshake. "This is Eldreth and Fred." He said, pointing at them both.
"It’s Eldra!"
"My bad," Zylus giggled.
Now, their actual journey has just begun.
